Yes. In recent years this was not the case, but as of January 1st, 2010, all Pharmacy Technicians in the state of Iowa are required to have a valid certification. You may become employed as a technician trainee for up to one year, and during that time period you must register a license and become certified otherwise your employment will be terminated.

Am I required to have a license to become a Pharmacy Technician in Iowa?

Yes. If you are certified and find employment you can be hired as a Pharmacy Technician but will have 30 days to obtain a license. Alternatively, if you are hired as a technician in training, you will again only have 30 days to obtain a license.
