Alternate-Day Statin Therapy for the Treatment of Hyperlipidemia
Dyslipidemia is a modifiable risk factor for cardiovascular disease, but cholesterol-lowering therapy with statins is underutilized. Patients are burdened by the high costs of the newer, more potent statins and the adverse effects. Could alternative day statin therapy be the solution to this adherence problem? This article reviews the related literature and prepares pharmacists to determine potential candidates and create therapy plans.
